Mike Romaniak is a Toronto based composer, performer and music educator. As a sopilka and saxophone player, Mike is involved in a number of projects that include the Earwax Ensemble (a new music ensemble that specializes in unusual notation and improvisation), the Lemon Bucket Orkestra (Toronto's only Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk Super-Band), and Crazy Voda (an Afro-Latin polka band).

Along with performing, Mike runs Torontiade, which are new music workshops that emphasize collaboration and networking between composers and performers. The term Torontiade stems from Schubertiade, an intimate event that 19th century composer Franz Schubert would host at his home to showcase new compositions.

Mike obtained his Bachelor of Music in Composition degree from the University of Toronto. He was the winner of the Don Wright Composition Competition at the University of Victoria in 2010. In 2009, he was awarded the first Five College Composition Award through the University of Massachusetts for his piano trio entitled Sfumato.
